Three Stooges to make a 2009 movie return!

The Farrelly Brothers
All of the Three Stooges fans of the world have begun to rejoice and do the Curly shuffle! The Stooges are finally going have a new movie. Now returning old and hopefully new fans will see the greatness of their comedy. The real question though is will it be a hit or a miss?
The movie was officially announced last week. The directors picked are none other than the Peter and Bobby Farrelly. The Farrelly Brothers have had movie hits that include There’s Something About Mary, Shallow Hal and Dumb and Dumber. The Farrellys have been pushing to make a Stooges movie for the better part of ten years.
“We love The Stooges! They have been sending the world into hysterics for more than 80 years.” Bobby Farrelly continued, “Movie goers today deserve their own Stooges and we look forward to introducing them to a new generation of knuckleheads.”
So why the long delay? The brothers answer that they have run into a variety of issues. Those problems however seem to have been worked out. The brothers are picking a tentative release date of February 20, 2009.
As a huge fan of the stooges I am already starting to get a bit nervous. Moe, Larry and Curly are such a comedy staple. Just saying their names conjure up such wonderful memories for many fans. It’s not something that you want to get wrong on the big screen!
2000s ABC TV Stooge movie
The last attempt to reintroduce the Stooges was an ABC TV movie made in 2000. An interesting side note is that The Shield actor Michael Chiklis played Curly in this movie. It was not a ratings success but movie did portray the lives of the Stooges fairly accurately. I myself enjoyed all of the actors. I believe that Chiklis did an exceptional job at playing Jerome “Curly” Howard. There was also more information given about the lesser known Stooges Joe Besser and Curly Joe DeRita.
Hopefully the Farrelly brothers will also take a fact based approach to the Stooges and their movie. We will have to wait and see. For right now this fan will chose to be optimistic.
